On March 24, Teens for Food Justice convened the third installment of its Far Rockaway Food Systems Networking Breakfast, this time at the Rockaway YMCA, drawing its largest attendance yet. The 25 people who filled the room came from healthcare, education, local business, and the nonprofit sector, joined by representatives from the offices of NYS Assemblyman Khaleel M. Anderson and Senator James Sanders. They came representing different organizations and left, largely, with the same feeling: this kind of table is long overdue.
The gathering was anchored by a panel conversation on radical collaboration: specifically, how organizations across the Rockaway Peninsula might build shared infrastructure without adding to the load on teams that are already stretched thin.
The event included a panel facilitated by Emily Miller, TFFJ’s Director of Development and Communications, featuring Jessenia Preciado, TFFJ’s Far Rockaway Regional Manager; Tania Collazo, Director of Nutrition at JASA; and Curtis Turney-Rentas, Director of the B.R.I.D.G.E. Family Enrichment Center and founder of the Far Rock Greek Council. The Wave editor in chief, Mark C. Healey, and Community Editor John Schilling covered the gathering.
